The pace of technology is fast and often, and many organisations find comfort in holding on to older systems that have served them well over the years. However, with AI heavily influencing and disrupting enterprise applications, changing how we use and consume these technologies, leaders are (forced or not) beginning to muster the courage to modernise some of these critical enterprise applications.
Leading this category is Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, which according to Gartner, are on the replace or upgrade list for over 70% of ERP leaders.
In Australian Government, the great emphasis on operational excellence means agencies are also under significant pressure to modernise, and just like the 70% of ERP leaders surveyed by Gartner, government leaders have outdated ERP applications under the microscope.
In this report, we draw influence from the resounding insights gathered from 12 government focused roundtable discussions held at the FST Future of State Government Summit in New South Wales, Victoria, and Perth, and share the challenges public sector organisations said they face when it comes to current ERP systems, and how ERP modernisation isn’t just considered by agencies as a technology upgrade— but as an opportunity and a strategic path to digital transformation.
